Today we did a group project. Students were organized in groups and given a team leader. You created a powerpoint presentation about food using a prompt you were given (favorite family meal, restaurant meal, barbeque, etc and you created a presentation in Spanish telling me about 1 main dish, 2 side dishes, a dessert and a drink- all typical American food) The one item not in Spanish was you researched the background or reason Americans typically eat this item. You submitted them to me through sharing it and we presented them in class. Next time we will do the Comidas Latinoamericanas with your groups and turn the answers in as well.
I also announced the foreign film festival that will take place 4th term. More info to come. Participation is optional but will be given 50 extra credit points; food for thought:)

Today we learned preterite or past tense. I had given you a worksheet a few times ago. I gave you time to complete and asked you to take a picture and submit on Canvas. Then we did a class bingo activity where you practiced asking questions in the tú and the responder answered in the yo. ej Montaste tu bici? Si, monté mi bici. Comiste huevos? No, no comí huevos. We reviewed these simple verbs: aprender=to learn, beber=to drink, caminar=to walk, comer=to eat, correr=to run, estudiar=to study, ganar=to win, hablar=to speak, mirar=to look at or watch, trabajar=to work. These are the verbs that will be on Verb Quiz #3 and you will have to conjugate in the preterite. I will post that today and it will be due on Friday. We turned in a clozeline song that we worked on in class "Un rey y un diez" and the bingo activity. Do the clozeline on Canvas if you are an online student.
Today we did an activity to learn how to extend our sentences. We created a chart on a piece of paper with 8 slots. We started with a pronoun (like me, te, le, nos, os, les) then we conjugated a gustar verb like me gusta or me encantan (if you use odio you don't need a prounoun in front) The next thing was the article like el, la, los, las and then the food item. las cebollas, el pollo etc. Then we took it further by saying porque or pero or cuando etc.; a connector word) so that we could say basically I like onions when they are cooked or I hate peas because I don't like the texture. Then we did an activity where we passed around the paper and you only got to fill in one word of the sentence and the next person filled in the next word. When the sentences were complete, you turned in a corrected version after you looked them over. If you are online, please look for Canvas assignment "Extended sentences using gustar, encantar and odiar" and complete. We watched some videos about how to make items in Spanish. Watch these; platanos, empanadas and omelete
Today we used the chrome books. The canvas class can be complicated and confusing for all of us. In an effort to make it less so by relocating the quizzes to the home page, I duplicated and also deleted some of the quizzes. I allowed time for everyone to do all 3 quizzes again during class. My bad but not gonna lie, repetition is great for foreign language study;) Make sure you do all of the assignments on the home page that have a due date and points attached. If it pops up but does not fit those qualifications it is not due. I will keep working on back end. Also Skyward is best standard for where your grade sits at any moment.
Sorry this is late. I did not feel well and didn't get this completed. We looked at a bunch of food pictures and practiced going through them as a class. Then we did a survey where we went around the class asking whether your fellow classmates liked an item, loved it, didn't like it or hated it. Then we wrote sentences in third person using clarifiers. ex A Señora Montrose le encantan las cebollas. A Tanner le gusta la pizza. A Lizzy y Ben les gusta el sushi. Pronouns are me, te, le, nos, os, les and these types of sentences are actually backwards grammar-wise. Pizza is pleasing to Tanner. Sushi is pleasing to them (Lizzy and Ben)
Today we started by watching this PowerPoint about different cultural foods that are eaten in Latin America. If you were in class, we filled out a clozeline activity, if you are online, please just watch the presentation. Then we filled out this worksheet on Tener and Querer and Ser and Estar. Please complete this if you are an online student. Then we played a game with dice and trying to compete to fill in verb trees for these food verbs: comer, beber, desayunar, almorzar, cenar and cocinar (only irregular is almorzar stem change o-ue). Please prepare to take Verb Quiz 2 on the next 10 verbs on your verb paper. This time we will rotate the verb trees. (You will need to know all of the spots and not just the yo form.
Today we started out with a calentamiento where you used the list of verbs that you are testing on today and your food vocabulary to write sentences, some silly:) ej. me baño en sopa de tomate. me acuesto con mi sandía favorita. You had to write at least 5 sentences. We turned in the warm-up from last time, where you went through your verb list and practiced conjugating the verbs. We did quizlet flashcards together did some quizlet lives and then you took the quiz (Verb Quiz 1 off to the right) on canvas. This is a one-time deal and has a 10 minute time limit. You are both conjugating them in the Yo and Defining them in a Matching question.
Bienvenidos a la escuela otra vez, después de vacaciones! Today to warm up your brains, we took out the verb list I gave you at the start of the year. We went through each verb and conjugated just one spot on the verb tree.
Abrir - yo - abro - I open Acostarse - tú - te acuestas - you go to bed Afeitarse - él - se afeita - he shaves, etc We tried to finish the entire first page or at least finish all of the C verbs. Then I passed out a vocabulary list for our Food Unit. We watched a powerpoint to fill in the blanks. Here is the filled in vocab sheet. We will be having a quiz on the first 10 verbs on the verb sheet on Thursday: definition and conjugate in Yo. |
