Today we had an outside presentation from Mr, Sears, guidance counselor. You had to take notes and turn them in for participation points. If you missed it go to Health Make Up and do Understanding Stress and Managing Stress worksheets.
Today we discussed Loss and Grieving. Here is the powerpoint. I gave out the gratitude assignment. You are writing a 2 page paper due the 6th of February. We did pages 49, 50 and 65 in your packets.
Today we had a presentation from Rod Campbell about suicide. He gave you a little test. I just had you turn it in for participation points. He showed a few clips. Inspirational. Know where Utah ranks in Suicide, leading cause of suicide. Quote: "Suicide is a __________ to a ______________ problem. If you missed this, go to Health Make Up link and print of suicide guided notes and watch the suicide guided notes and turn them in and title SUICIDE MAKEUP.
Today we thought about two questions: What is the difference between Self-Worth and Self-Esteem? What is the difference between Arrogance and Confidence? Then you put these in your journals: Five things that you are GREAT at and 2 things that you LOVE about yourself. Then we went around the room and you had to state 2 things that you are GREAT at and 1 thing that you LOVE about your body. We watched a youtube video by Prince Ea and a little one about the difference between arrogance and confidence. For B5 and B7 we watched the video on Non-Verbals. We also discussed this quote. We broke into groups and did this worksheet. You came up and acted them out and then I gave your group a stamp and you turned it in for participation points. Today we had an outside presentation on Mental Disorders from Paul Dymock, (except in B8 where I had to present) and you took notes on a separate piece of paper that you turned in. If you were absent today you will need to do a Mental Disorder Make up assignment in my Health Makeup section.
Today you took notes on Resiliency. You also each shared something from your gratitude journal. Then we watched Jessica's Affirmation and another Ted Talk. I gave you stamps on your plain piece of paper that you took notes on and you are just stapling that to your packets.
Today we had a sub. You did a Gratitude Journal entry. Then you had a Values Auction. You turned in the paper. Then you read a chapter in the Health book and filled out the Lesson One papers from your packet. One of the papers directed you to make a bumper sticker. You were allowed to do it as a group no larger than 4 people. These were also turned in.
Today we did our first entry in your gratitude journals : Be Specific!! We took the Total Health Pre-test. I handed out slacker passes (only 2 per semester). We drew pictures of what we think of when we hear the word "Healthy". Then we went through the guided notes for the Health Triangle. I announced that on Fridays (when we have class on Fridays, I would like you to bring in an article addressing Mental or Total Health for us to discuss as a class.
Welcome to Secondary Health!!! Please print off and read the Health Disclosure Document (link on this page) and have it signed by your parents by Monday!! Also don't forget to bring your gratitude journal!!:) We got to know each other and introduced our partners this first day of Health and turned in questionnaires for participation points. We also spoke a little about the definition of gratitude : Gratitude is essentially the recognition of the unearned increments of value in one's experience. We also watched a video clip of Ashton Kutcher receiving an award. Surprising:) Remember the keys to happiness and success that he mentions in this video.
