Please use today as a catch up day on Canvas as well as completing the marijuana quiz and completing the reading we started on Drugs in Canvas. Complete all reading and take self checks in drug unit that are available.

Today we focussed on Marijuana and it's particular affects on the brain as well as discussing Addiction in our lives and all of the things that we can become addicted to: phones, video games, people, attention, sugar, netflix binging, social media, music, etc. What are some things indicators that we or someone we know has reached the point of addiction : it causes them to isolate, takes over their life - takes precedence over everything else, its all that they can talk about, affects their social life, their grades, their state of mind. What can we do when we notice it is at unhealthy level? Limit our time - put a timer on it, be more purposeful with it, take a break from it entirely, talk to someone about it and problem solve, look for triggers that cause us to want to engage in this activity or behavior.
Take the Marijuana Quiz. Read the Effects of Drugs on Brain and Body including the videos that are included. Today I gave you some time in class to complete the Relationship packets. We did pages 1 through 9 and then picked up again 18-20. Turn them in and I will return them. Then we did the reading and discussion in Canvas, Facts about Drugs and Drug Abuse. I borrowed this course from BYU. Do not read section under Drugs and Law that go into LDS church beliefs and show a video. We did finish this reading and then watched this video in the next reading on HOW DRUGS AFFECT THE BRAIN.
Today was the first day of our new unit!!! Use and Misuse of Drugs and Medicine.
Please complete the packet from Healthy and Unhealthy relationships!!! Turn those in on Friday!! We introduced the unit by my explaining the unit project which is creating a Natural High Video. You can find the description of the assignment, do's and don'ts and rubric on Canvas on Day 3 Creating A Drug-Free Lifestyle. You may complete this anytime over the next 3 weeks and share it on Canvas. It is DUE March 9th and March 12th is the last day of the term so you will WANT TO COMPLETE IT BEFORE THE END OF TERM: YOUR GRADE WILL GO ON THIS TERM. PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AS THERE ARE THINGS YOU CANNOT USE AS YOUR NATURAL HIGH AND THERE IS A STATEMENT THAT YOU MUST ACTUALLY SAY NOT TYPE TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT!! EVERY STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT THIS VIDEO. IT IS ONLY 1 MINUTE LONG AND YOU CAN WALK OUT OR PUT YOUR HEAD DOWN WHEN SHOWING YOUR QUICK VIDEO. We watched Bethany Hamilton's Natural High Video (just a fun example but your requirements are different. She does a lot of talking and it is 5 minutes long, yours is only 60 seconds!! Then we discussed the Role of Medicine through this powerpoint. Journal Entry and Questions are for ONLINE AND ABSENT STUDENTS ONLY. ALL STUDENTS NEED TO TAKE THE QUIZ. Then we watched a short documentary from drugfreeworld.org Go to the link on Canvas to watch the documentary. We will watch other clips on various days. Today we had a "catch-up" day. We watched this clip from youtube about suicide.
Today we continued our lesson on Healthy and Unhealthy relationships. In person students have been filling out a packet with various activities. Please finish the readings for the Relationship day and I will provide some time in class to do activities in the rest of the packet on Friday. We will start our next unit on Wednesday, the 17th. We also watched this great 2 minute video about communication
Today we did the Mental Illness Day. We went through the powerpoint and discussed words like Stigma and causes of Mental Illness. We covered many common Mental Illnesses along with their symptoms. We discussed Suicide. At the end of the period we did a 12 minute meditation on Calm. Assignments were given on Canvas. Look for points and deadlines to know which ones are assigned on Home Page.
